Day 02 (Fri) – Nairobi / Lake Nakuru National Park

Breakfast and then depart Nairobi and drive towards the Great Rift Valley with a brief stop at the Great Rift Valley view point for great picture opportunities. The Great Rift Valley is geologic phenomena, which divides Kenya neatly down the length of the country essentially separating east

from west. Today's Rift Valley is characterized by uninhabitable desert and fertile farmland, flat arid plains, steep escarpments and 07 lakes in Kenya. Proceed to Lake Nakuru National Park and immediately embark on a game drive that takes you around the shores of the lake, made famous by its thousands of flamingos that form a pink hue across its shores. Lake Nakuru National Park is also a Rhino sanctuary and contains plenty of other plains game. Lunch at Flamingo Hill Tented Camp / Similar, short siesta and at 1600 hrs, enjoy another game drive in the National park.

Lake Nakuru, a shallow alkaline lake, is world famous as the location of the greatest bird spectacle on earth - myriads of pink flamingo whose numbers are legion, often more than a million and which literally turn its shores pink.  They feed on the abundant algae which thrive in the warm waters.  But flamingoes are not the only avian attraction, as the lake is rich in other birdlife.  There are over 400 resident species on the lake and in the surrounding park.  Large numbers of pelicans concentrate by the fresh-water streams that flow into the lake, and thousands of other birds may be seen includinG African fish eagles, white-winged black terns, stilts, avocets, ducks and in the European winter, the migrant waders. The national park surrounds the lake, offering a wide ecological diversity, from lakeshore, woodland, grassy plains to rocky escarpments and ridges.

It has recently been enlarged to provide a sanctuary for black rhino and now has one of the largest concentrations of rhinoceros in the country (both black rhino and white rhino), so the chances of spotting these are very good. There are also a number of Rothschild's giraffe, translocated for safety from western Kenya.  Waterbucks, zebras and Cape buffaloes are very common.  Lion are present in the park and, like the lions of Lake Manyara, are quite often seen in the acacia trees. Leopards are also frequently sighted and Lake Nakuru National.

Park is one of the places where visitors have the best chance of seeing these elusive big cats.  The bushlands offer eland, warthog, impala, Mountain Reedbuck and dik dik, whilst rock hyrax and klipspringer occupy the cliffs and escarpment.

Dinner and overnight at Flamingo Hill Tented Camp / Similar.

Day 03 (Sat) – Lake Nakuru / Nairobi

Early morning game drive at 0630 hrs followed breakfast. Thereafter, depart Lake Nakuru and drive back to Nairobi. Upon arrival in Nairobi, enjoy a tour of the City of Nairobi, covering its main historical and contemporary landmarks.

Farewell dinner tonight will be served at the famous Carnivore restaurant. The Carnivore is justifiably referred to as Africa’s Greatest Eating Experience. Twice voted amongst the world’s 50 best restaurants by UK-based Restaurant magazine, the Carnivore is an amazing open-air meat specialty restaurant that has strikingly different food service and atmosphere to any other restaurant in Kenya.

Whole joints of meat - legs of lamb and pork, haunches of exotic meat, rumps of beef, sirloins, racks of lamb, spare ribs, sausages, chicken wings, skewered kidneys, even crocodile, and other tasty morsels - are roasted on traditional Masai swords over a huge, visually spectacular charcoal pit that dominates the entrance of the restaurant.

Drop off at the Hotel Laico Regency Nairobi / Similar, where you are booked on Bed and breakfast basis.
